Tour Details, Options & Conditions
The Northern Lights are a breathtaking natural phenomenon — but also unpredictable, since they depend on both weather conditions and solar activity. We monitor the forecasts very closely all the time and keep our plan flexible to ensure you get the best experience possible.
We’ll never cut the experience short. We’re happy to wait with you for the Northern Lights to appear for as long as you wish. Once they light up the sky, we’ll keep enjoying the experience for as long as you prefer.
Road Trips and Excursions
start times for road trips and excursions are flexible and will be set based on the destination, weather, and what suits you best. The details of your tour will be agreed upon during the booking process and confirmed again two days before your arrival to ensure that everything fits perfectly.
NORTHERN LIGHTS Tour Options
You can choose from three different Northern Lights experiences:
Local Watching – Within 30 km radius of Rovaniemi
Local Chasing – Within 100 km radius of Rovaniemi
Northern Lights Hunting – No distance limit
How We Decide the Plan
A few days before your arrival, I will contact you so we can review the forecasts together and confirm which tour option is most promising.
If the forecast is good around Rovaniemi, we will stay local instead of driving long distances.
If clearer skies are predicted further away, we may travel further out to maximize your chances.
If the forecast is not favorable at all, we can reschedule to a better night, and I’ll suggest alternative evening activities so your holiday time is never wasted.
My main goal is not simply to drive for kilometers, but to give you the best possible opportunity to witness the Northern Lights — in the most comfortable, enjoyable, and personal way.
Private Tours & Safe Transportation
All my tours can be private when booked for at least three people, so you won’t have to share the experience with strangers — everything is tailored just for your group.
However, I understand the importance of welcoming solo travelers, so if everyone agrees, I’d be happy to include a single traveler in the group.
Normally, I can take a maximum of 4 passengers per tour, which keeps the experience personal, flexible, and comfortable. For larger groups, please make your booking request well in advance.
We travel in a 4-wheel drive SUV, ensuring comfort, flexibility, and safety even in challenging Arctic winter conditions. This allows us to reach more remote viewing spots — places mini-buses can’t access — while keeping the journey smooth and secure.
Sustainable and Respectful Northern Lights Viewing in Lapland
Experiencing the Northern Lights is a magical journey that connects visitors to the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Lapland. Sustainable Northern Lights viewing means respecting the fragile Arctic environment and local communities by keeping noise low, avoiding bright white lights, and never leaving trash behind. It’s important not to disturb local people, their property, or traffic—always park responsibly and avoid private yards.
Watching the Northern Lights calmly and with respect not only enhances the experience but also honors Lapland’s rich Sámi traditions. By embracing mindful behavior and eco-friendly practices, visitors can enjoy a joyful, unforgettable, and responsible way to witness one of nature’s most beautiful wonders.
Photography
As a professional photographer, I will capture high-quality images of you and the Northern Lights. You’ll receive two edited photos already on the same night, and the rest within two days by download link.
Because I take care of photographing the experience, you don’t need to worry about your camera and can simply enjoy the magic of the Northern Lights. On the other hand, if photography is something you’re passionate about, I’ll gladly share my knowledge, help you with your camera settings, and even provide a tripod so you can succeed with your own photos.
Snacks & Drinks Included
To keep you warm and comfortable during the tour, I provide a selection of light snacks and drinks — such as cookies, muesli bars, tea, coffee, juice, and water. These are all included in the price.
Since the tour can last several hours and we spend time outdoors, I recommend having a light dinner beforehand or bringing along a sandwich. This will ensure you stay comfortable and don’t get hungry during the excursion and eat all our cookies:)
Safety for Children
My tours are suitable for children of all ages. Please let me know the ages of your children in advance, so I can make any adjustments needed to ensure the experience is both safe and enjoyable for the little ones. I provide proper safety seats for all children under 135 cm, in accordance with Finnish transportation law.
As this is a private tour, we can always go at your family’s own pace, making the experience comfortable and stress-free for everyone.
Preparing for Cold Weather
For your tour, it’s important to dress warmly in layers to stay comfortable outdoors in cold conditions. Start with a base layer that pulls moisture away, followed by an insulating mid-layer like fleece or wool, and finish with a windproof, waterproof outer layer.
Don’t forget warm socks, gloves, hand and feet warmers, sturdy warm shoes or boots, a hat that covers your ears, and a face and neck covering such as a scarf or neck warmer.
Payment
No prepayment is required — you can conveniently pay on the day of the tour, either by cash or card. All my prices include 25.5% VAT.
If the Northern Lights are not visible to the naked eye during the tour, the tour price will be 50% of the original price to help cover gasoline and operational costs. Please note that even if the aurora forecast is promising, sightings cannot be guaranteed as this is a natural phenomenon. We appreciate your understanding.
Cancellation & Confirmation Policy
Since no prepayment is required, you may cancel your booking at any time without penalties. I understand that plans can change unexpectedly during travel, and I trust my customers to communicate any changes. To ensure a smooth experience for everyone, I will contact you about 2 days before the tour to confirm your reservation and review the forecast together. If I am unable to reach you by then, the reservation may be canceled.
